To maintain the Fit School drive through the long, warm summer months, Year 6 pupils have taken on a new activity challenge: they're aiming to smash their 10,000 steps a day target and are tracking their progress using new pedometers.
10,000 is the number of steps recommended by health professionals for maintaining achieving good heart exercise and maintaining a healthy weight. Steps can be measured by devices called pedometers that can be worn around your wrist or attached to your clothes.
After a discussion on the importance of staying active, Year 6 pupils proudly took receipt of their new pedometers. They wore them in class, out at play, during football at lunch and even our local history around the city centre. Some pupils managed to get over 10,000 steps in just the six hours they were wearing them and all pupils got close - not bad considering they wore them for less than half their day!
Kestrel class have challenged themselves to improve their total each day this week, so stay tuned for further updates and pictures of the children with pedometers in action!
