Term 3, Week 1 Blog

05 January 2021

Hello Year 5! Unfortunatley we are back in Lockdown, which will run until half term. This means we are going to resume online learning.

However- learning will be different this time. For this week we will post the learning on the blog as usual. Next week we will contact you to come into school and collect a chromebook if you do not have a device at home, and you will use this to access Google Classroom. We will teach you in small groups how to use this. Then each day Miss Campbell, Mrs Jackson or Mrs Irfan will lead online learning in something called a google meet- which is like a zoom call.

This week we will Zoom call each morning to discuss your work for the day. On Zoom you MUST mute yourself immediatley, and only unmute if you are asked to, or you will be removed from the call and your parents will be contacted.

Enquiry

This term we are learning all about SPACE. This week we will be learning about the different planets and creating a presentation. On Friday you will have a chance to share your presentation with the rest of Y5 on Zoom.

Task 1: INVESTIGATE- what is the order of the planets? Draw a diagram and label it to show the order of the planets.

Click Here for a useful source for information.

Task 2: RESEARCH- Choose one of the planets to further research

1.) How far away is it from Earth? From the Sun?

2.) How big is it?

3.) Does it have any moons? How many?

4.) What colour is it?

5.) What is it composed of?

6.) Is it visible from Earth?

* Interesting facts*

Task 3: PRESENT- Think of a way to present your research- a poster, a leaflet, a 3D model, non-chronological report, painting. Prepare something to say about your planet and be ready to talk about it on Friday on the Class Zoom call.

Look at some of these examples below.
