Today we will be practicing speech punctuation, which we will need to write our newspaper reports. 

In this lesson, we will start by improving a sentence using adjectives, verbs and an adverbial phrase or clause. Then we will investigate different types of speech punctuation and put them into practice.

In this lesson, we will be starting with writing a complex sentence with a relative clause. Next, we will look at where we would be gathering evidence or information from if we were journalists writing our own newspaper reports.

Today we will be writing opening paragraphs.

In this lesson, we will be investigating the purpose of semicolons and practising how to use them in a list. Then, we will look at an opening of a newspaper report and identify the 5Ws: who, what, where, when and why. We will then be writing our own headlines for a newspaper report, making sure to keep it short and snappy.

Today we will write the rest of our newspaper report.

In this lesson, we will be revising all the features of a newspaper report, looking at the headline, 5Ws, witness statements, direct and indirect speech, journalistic sentence starters and lastly, tense in the final paragraph.

Enquiry for the week 

It is very important you use this time to rehearse your lines for the performance- can you practice the lines with an adult or get family members to play the different roles in the scene? Practice using a loud voice, making eye contact and using your body language.
