Mad Science

15 April 2016

Our first day back was amazing because the beach is now
finished and we had a Mad Science workshop. We met a scientist who was teaching
us about volcanoes and magnets. First, we cut a boiled egg in half because it
looks like a planet as the inside is like the core. She told us about the earth
crust and the magma which comes from the centre of the earth. Then, we made a
path out of straw and sticks onto a map of a city. We did this so that we could
save the city from the volcano. After this, we made erupting volcanoes. Some of
us destroyed the city but some of us managed to save it!

Then we learned about magnets. We controlled a compass with
magnets. When we rubbed the paper clip with the magnet and then put it on the
compass, the compass got confused.

We learned a lot and really enjoyed ourselves too!
