Literacy

Last week our chicks hatched! See photos in the 'blog image gallery' below.

Activity 1

Talk to your child about what they can see. Ask them to use full sentences.

What can they tell you about the chicks?
What was it like when they hatched?
What did they look and feel like?
What did we need to do to look after them?

Activity 2

Together think of a caption about one of the photos. eg. We looked at the eggs. The egg cracked. The chick came out. The chick was soft. He has a beak.

In your book draw a chick and use your sounds to write ‘chick’.
Encourage your child to do this by themselves.
- Use robot arms to say the sounds
- Find each sound on the sound mat
- Write the sounds in order

Ask your child to tell you as much as they can about the chicks and write exactly what they say next to their picture. Please upload a photo of their drawing and writing.

Challenge

Think of and write your own sentence about the chick photos. (You could print one to stick in your book) Remember to:
- Use finger spaces between words.
