The National Curriculum
At Hannah More we follow the national curriculum for Art and Design. Within this there are 4 overall aims for all children.
1. All children produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
2. All children become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other techniques
3. All children evaluate and analyse creative works using the appropriate language
4. All children know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art.
How We Teach Art at Hannah More
We use a detailed skills progression document to plan and deliver art lessons. This ensures that art and design skills are developed systematically throughout their time at school.
We also use ‘Artist Profile’ sheets to develop children’s knowledge of a variety of artists. Teachers use these documents to plan and deliver a sequence of lessons that are linked to certain artists. This allows children to become inspired and develop their own creative ideas that are based on different styles and
techniques.
At Hannah More, we value our cross curriculur approach to teaching art. The artist and art art outcome for a year group's project is closely their topic. This promotes creative teaching and the children's enjoyment and curiousity for learning.
Art Week
Art Week is an exciting week in which the whole school is creative, expressive and immersed in a variety of art activities across the week. The art produced is then displayed at an ‘Art Exhibition’ where children and parents can appreciate and celebrate the creative outcomes of the week.
