Go, Mo, Go!

"How big to tidal waves get?!"

Mo and his friends are looking forward to a relaxing day on the beach with their ice creams.

But what is causing the giant tidal wave heading straight towards them? Watch out here comes a GIANT SLIMY TENTACLE...RUN!

It's Mrs Sessions here reading Go, Mo, Go! Seaside Sprint.

Initially I thought this book was written by Mo Farah but when I looked closely I discovered it was actually written by Kes Gray for Mo Farah.

Kes Gray is a humorous author and so I have a feeling that this book is going to be funny. I also think it will involve some running. I wonder if Mo will also be the hero? Will he save the day?

Let's read on to find out...

Read up to page 6.

At the moment everything is very peaceful and calm...the friends are having a rest day on the beach...they are playing...they are eating delicious ice creams...they are not doing any running...but my knowledge of stories is making me think that danger is just around the corner. Surely something is going to happen?

Using the blurb to support you think about these questions:

What trouble do you think is going to happen?

Will Mo save the day? How?

Add your thoughts and comments in the comment box below. Or if you like draw a picture predciting what you think will happen in the story.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have read all the way to page 34 now. Wow! Mo and his friends have had to do a lot of running on their rest day!

What have they had to run away from? What did they run away from first? What was the lat thing that tried to get their ice-creams?

Can you draw a picture of the different things that Mo and his friends had to run away from? Draw your pictures in the correct order to show you can remember the order that things happened in the story.

In this section of the book their are some words that are important that you understand. Mo and his friends run to the pier. What is a pier?

Promenade on page 24 is also a tricky word. Can you use the text to work out what the word migt mean?

Mo and his friends begin to run to the seafront (page 29). Where does this mean they run to?

Finally Mo and his friends arrive at a lighthouse. Light houses are very useful buildings. Click on this link to find out more about them:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the children are at the light house things are calmer. Will they stay calm for long? Or will they soon have to run again?

Eeeek on page 37 the friends are just about to eat their ice-creams when suddenyl Mo shouts 'RUN' again!

On page 40 it says: " Lyra, Banjo, Vern and Lily stared far out to sea. Sure enough, far out on the distant horizon a monstrous tidal wave was looming".

What does the wod monstrous tell us about the tidal wave? Why do you think the author has chosen to use this word to describe the tidal wave? What ipact does it have on us as readers?

Can you draw a picture of the view that Mo and his friends are facing? How can you show that it is monstrous?
