Geography research

08 January 2016

To start our topic, the children learnt how to use atlases and maps to find out about different countries and places.

The children learned the continents of the world and loved singing this silly song as a way of remembering them: http://sillyschoolsongs.com/tag/7-continents-rap-song/ . Using this knowledge, the children used Google maps to plan a fieldwork trip to Cabot Circus. The children planned questions to ask the public about Bristol in order to collect information about how the city is used, what makes it great and what would improve the area.

Our trip was fantastic!

We walked to Cabot Circus, took pictures of the area and surveyed the public (making sure we did so in a safe and polite way!) and collected some really interesting data. Since then, the children have produced some fantastic sketch maps, showing what the area looks like and identifying its key features.
