Teaching

Miss Wright is the class teacher in Swift class this year! (I haved moved classrooms next door.) Swift class is very lucky to have two LSA's who will be working across year 4. Carol will be in every morning and Vic on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. In Year 4, the children will spending the morning in literacy, numeracy, reading and spelling or grammar lessons. In the afternoon, we will do anything from art, handwriting, PSHE, circle time, French and, of course, our exciting topic lessons!

Topic

Our first topic of the Autumn term 2015 is Romans Rule, where we will be exploring different aspects of life during this period of history. We are working towards the challenge of putting on a whole school museum for members of the school community. Some of the questions we will be answering during our topic are:

What can discover from an archaeologist about artefacts?

What can we learn about a day in the life of a Roman?

What can we learn about the Roman Invasions?

What influence did the Romans have on the UK?

Can we create a roman mosaic?

PE

On Wednesdays Swift class have PE with Mollie and are taught for the rest of the morning by Ms Sokoni. Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit. Please ensure they have their uniform in their bag to change in to.

Assessment

Children are assessed regularly and progress can be discussed with parents at learning review meetings. I will contact you if I have any concerns about your child's progress, or do not hesitate to arrange a meeting via the school office.

Homework

Topic - This website is very useful for reasearching all about the Romans! BBC - The Romans

Homework will be given out every Thursday. Year 4 pupils will all receive literacy/Topic, Numeracy and Spellings homework. Homework has to be handed in on a Monday morning. If homework is not handed in on a Monday morning, a text will be sent home to the child's parents.

It is important that your child reads for 15 minutes each day, whether by themselves or with an adult. Do be sure to sign your child's reading journal and test their understanding through questioning. In addition to this they can use Bug Club at home!

Book bags

Children's book bags should be brought to school every day to ensure that they are reading regularly at school and at home. They are expected to change their reading books regularly using our new and fantastic online system, where all our books are scanned in and out.
