YEAR 5 VIKING DAY!

20 September 2016

Yesterday a Viking man scared us by raiding our classroom and everyone screamed! He was wearing chainmail armour, a pocket for his sword and his knife – I thought he was going to kill us!

During the day, we learnt more about Vikings. He told stories about famous Vikings and their battles. One of the stories involved weapons, like a leg-biter and an axe. We were allowed to have a look at the weapons and try on the armour! The chainmail armour was very heavy however I (Mohamed Isse) managed to hold it! Throughout the day we joined in the stories acting in role wearing costumes. The men wore mainly blue tunics with belts and girls wore a range of coloured tunics. I had to act out a wolf to protect the King, Odin, wearing a fur coat. Later on Hogarth taught us how to light a fire outside. Can you guess what makes a fire? Well.... you need flint, steel and charcloth to create sparks! Once it is smouldering you can light the sawdust/wood chippings! Hogarth was very quick I was surprised! It was a great day!
