Hello Year 2 and welcome back to term 3!

On this blog we will upload English, Maths and Phonics learning for you daily to complete.

Send all your work to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  and Miss Burnett or Mr Thomson will get back to you as soon as we can!

We will hold daily zooms at 8:45am every day so we can say hello to each other and go through your activities for that day.

We will also now do an end of day zoom daily at 2:45pm to review our learning.

Here is the zoom link for those meetings: https://zoom.us/j/6096088052?pwd=L2JtanZkVmZ3T04ySWxkWHdTVCtDdz09

Friday

English

Today we are going to be using our inference skills with our new book Traction Man. Inference means finding meaning by reading 'between the lines'  and we infer lots when we think about how characters are feeling and to understand why characters say or do things in stories. Pause the video to write what you think the characters will say in your speech bubbles (in your author journals) before watching the rest of the video.

Maths

Today we are looking at adding equal groups. Watch this video from white rose and complete this worksheet. To help your children in their maths learning keep linking the repeated addition number sentences to our previous learning describing the groups, for example the number sentence 4+4+4 shows 3 lots of 4 so you will need to draw 3 equal groups of 4 to find the total. This will help your children to build greater understanding.

Challenge: If you want extra work or if you prefer to, you can also have a go at the worksheet we are doing in class, it is slightly different but covers the same learning aim! You will also find the Level 2 and 3 challenges here!

Phonics

Watch the phonics sounds video below again to revise your sounds and complete this sheet. Can you choose the correct ee/ea/ey grapheme to spell the words? We have been preparing full phonics lessons for next week so be ready for those on Monday with your sound mats and whiteboards that have been sent home with your books! If you have not yet collected them from school, make sure you do. They will really help you with your home learning.

Other Work

Make sure to go on Bug Club, Times Table Rock Stars, and Numbots daily too! All username and passwords can be found in the front of your author journals. Books on Bug Club will be updated regularly for you. If you have any problems logging in, email the Year 2 team and we will sort this out for you.

Thursday

Well done for the fantastic start you made yesterday! We loved seeing your work and Mr Thomson enjoyed seeing lots of your faces on zoom! Make sure you continue to send work in and we will share them in the gallery below so you can see what each other are doing at home!

English

Today we are going to find out a bit more about Traction Man. First, we would like you to watch this video from Toy Story to think about how toys and action figures could behave!

We would like you to watch the video below and after draw a prediction on the sheet in your author journals showing us what you think is going to happen next in the story. Then, write a sentence with your prediction. Remember to use capital letters and full stops!

Challenge: try to use 'and' or 'because' in your prediction for more detailed predictions and to explain why you think this might happen!

Maths

Today we are going to be looking at making equal groups and drawing them! Once we can do this, we can use these to help us multiply and divide! We suggest you get some resources that you have lots of (such as pasta or grapes) and practically practise making groups first. For example: Can you make 3 equal groups of 4,   2 equal groups of 5  or  3 lots of 2? (Use both  ___ equal groups of ___  and        ___ lots of ___ with the children to help develop fluency in their understanding!) We would love to see pictures of you doing this activity at home so make sure you send them to us! Then watch the video below and complete the worksheet that is already stuck in your mathematician journal.

Phonics and Spelling

To make sure you remember your sounds we need to practise them daily like we do at school so watch this video again. From Monday next week, we will also be recapping a new focus sound daily.

Then, can you choose the right grapheme for the oa/o-e/ow sound to spell the words correctly on this sheet?

Challenge: Can you come up with a list of your own words for each grapheme and the less common 'oe' and 'o' graphemes that also belong to this group?

Wednesday

English

This term we are going to start looking at our new book 'Traction Man'. To begin with, we are going to explore the first few pages to find out who Traction Man is, and then think of adjectives to describe him. Watch this lesson with Mr Thomson and complete the work in your author journals. Here is a copy of the worksheet if you need it.

Maths

In Maths this term we are going to be learning about multiplication and division. To begin with, we are going to look at equal groups and consider what it means. Watch this video and complete the worksheet stuck in your mathematician journal.  Here is the maths with the Level 2 and 3 challenges if you have not got them already and want to have a go!

Phonics

Watch this video and recap your sounds with Miss Burnett. Remember to use the letter sounds, not their names! Also, make sure to not add that 'u' schwa to your sounds!

Challenge: Can you choose the right grapheme for the ai/ay/a-e sound to spell the words correctly on this sheet
