Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

The class teachers are Miss Burnett in Gruffalo class and Mrs Sessions (Monday, Tuesday) and Miss Hall (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) in Elmer class.
Vicki and Amy will be working in the classes during the morning and supporting small groups of children in the afternoon.
Miss Griffiths and Miss Stevens will be teaching the classes on Wednesday mornings. This is when Year 1 have P.E.

At the beginning of the Year 1 we will be incorporating the foundation stage approach to learning alongside the Year 1 curriculum. This is to enable a smooth and happy transition.
As we move throughout the year, children will experience more formal whole class teaching.
We are always happy to talk. Please come and see one of us at the end of the day if you have any questions or concerns. You can also book an appointment through the office.

Please see our timetable in the attached photo.

Writing
Our Writing is taught through picture books. Every few weeks we will have a different pixture book which will be the stimulus for lots of writing, grammar and drama activities.
In Year 1, the teaching of phonics is vital to both reading and writing.
Children learn phonics every day.
Here are some websites you could use to help your child develop the phonetical awareness.

To help you child, encourage them to write everyday about something they are interested in or have done that day.
