Hello Ladybird and Caterpillar children! 

Good Morning Reception children and welcome to week 2 of your home learning.

We were so impressed with all of your learning and photos on ILD last week - please keep up the hard work and keep posting on ILD.

Like last week, you can also find your child's learning on their interactive learning diary. Please use this to upload your children's work. We would love to see photos and examples of their work and anything fun you are doing at home.

Weekly Phone Calls

It was lovely to speak to so many of you last week. We will ring again this week.  We will talk to your child to see how they are finding their activities and we will talk to you to see how you are and what help we can provide.

Miss Wilkinson will ring Ladybird children every Monday morning between 9am and 12pm.Mrs Sessions and Miss Vintin will ring Caterpillar children every Wednesday morning between 9am and 12pm.

Tasks to practise all week

 

PE

This week Mr Rosetti has made his own PE video for you all to enjoy. Click on the link to join in. You can do this everyday if you want to keep really fit and healthy.

Handwriting 

We would like you to practise your handwriting again this week. Try and practise the letters from last week too: l   i    t

This week we are going to practise writing these letters:

Ask an adult to help you draw some straight lines in your book. Use a ruler if you have one. Can you write the letter correctly using the lines? Leave a finger space between each letter. Please see the image gallery for the correct way to write each letter.

Challenge:

Can you write some words that you know that have some of the letters in them?  jug or jet

Try and practise your handwriting every day.

Take a photo of your handwriting and ask your parent/carer to put it on your interactive learning diary at the end of the week. Your teachers would love to see it!

Draw or make a home for your super vegetable that you made yesterday. You could use an old box or lego bricks – anything you like.

Please send a photo of your vegetables and their houses. We would love to see them.

Today we are practising using number lines to find out what ‘ 1 more’ is.

Activity 2

For this activity you will need the number line in the image gallery below and the game you made on Tuesday (see Picture 5 and 6 in image gallery below). Use numbers 0 - 10.

Spin the bottle to select a number. Now find the number on the number line. Slide to the right to find ‘1 more’!

Challenge

Play the game again using numbers 0- 20!

Super Challenge:

Can you play the game again without using the number line? How fast can you say what number is 1 more than the number your bottle pointed at?

Hello Children!

Yesterday was day number 1 of April (1st April). Today is 1 more day in April so today is the 2nd of April!

Today we will be adding 1 to a bigger number.

Create your own part – part – whole model (see picture A in image gallery below). You will need two small plates and 1 big plate.

Can you find out what 4 and 1 is?

Copy picture A. Place 4 pieces of pasta on a small plate and 1 piece of pasta on the other small plate. Say “4 and 1 equals?”

Now put all the pasta in the big bowl.  Say “4 and 1 equals 5” (See picture B)

Activity 1

Have a look at the pictures of Fufu, Paddington, Pudsey and Cat (see image gallery below blog). ‘Picture 5’ shows them playing a game called ‘Spin the Bottle’. The toys spin the bottle to see how many points they can win. ‘Picture 6’ shows how many points each toy wins.

Adults

Looking at ‘Picture 6’, ask your child how many points each toy has.

Now ask:

1. What can you tell me about the game? (Who is winning? Who is losing?)

2. Who has the least number of points?

3. Who has the most number of points?

4. Who has more points than Pudsey? Who has less points than points?

5. Who has more points than the Sloth? Who has less points than Fufu?

6. Who has more points than Paddington? Who has less points than Paddington?

7. Who has more points than Cat? Who has less points than Cat?

Activity 2

Now it’s your turn! To make the game you need paper, a pen, scissors and an old bottle. (See ‘Picture 7’.) Write numbers to 10 and cut them out. Place the numbers in a circle and the bottle in the middle. Play the game together. Who will win the most points?

Warm Up

Activity

Today we are practising to compare quantity and to recognise when there is more of something or less of something.

We will be practising using the words ‘most’, ‘more’, ‘least’ and ‘less’.

Have a look at pictures 1, 2 and 3 of ‘Fufu the Sloth’ and ‘Paddington the Bear’ in the image gallery (below this blog). They have been playing ‘Scavenger Hunt’ and have been searching for items around their home to compare.

Adults

For each photo, ask your child to count the number of items each toy has.

Now ask:

1. What can you tell me about the number of items you can see?

2. Do they have an equal amount?

3. Who has more?

4. Who has less?

Encourage your child to answer with a full sentence.

For example; “I know Fufu has more because he has 8. 8 is bigger than 5. I know Paddington has less because he has 5. 5 is smaller than 8.”

Challenge

In the last photo (picture 4), Fufu, Paddington and Pudsey are playing ‘Snap’.

Count the number of cards each toy has.

Adults

For each photo, ask your child to count the number of items each toy has.

Now ask:

1. Who has the least number of cards?

2. Who has the most number of cards?

3. Who has more cards than Pudsey? Who has less cards than Pudsey?

4. Who has more cards than Fufu the Sloth? Who has less cards than Fufu?

5. Who has more cards than Paddington? Who has less cards than Paddington?
